Earlier today, I posted my thoughts on Allegiant, the third book in the Divergent series, but even earlier this week, I re-read the first two books to refresh myself on the series.

This led to me watching the Divergent trailer too many times, which led to me watching interviews, Comic Con panels, and featurettes.  All because I fell pretty hard for Theo James.

This could have something to do with immersing myself in the series this week and my abiding love for the character of Four, but also have you seen him?  Better yet, have you heard him?!  His voice could melt butter.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Aaron Turner of So You Think You Can Dance!

I say ‘quasi-celebrity’ because Aaron Turner, SYTYCD‘s new tall and tasty tapper, isn’t exactly a household name. Yet.  In my unprofessional opinion it’s only a matter of time before Aaron goes from smokin’ hot dance show contestant to America’s Broadway hunk de jure (think Cheyenne Jackson, only straight. Probably). Let me show you what I’m talking about.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Oliver Jackson-Cohen

oliver-jackson-cohen121201012929pmOne thing that Ellen and I have always prided ourselves on is our ability to crush (usually pretty hard) on people who may not be considered classically handsome, especially if we find them hilarious. I’m going to be honest and admit this is NOT one of those instances. This weeks crush, the painfully pretty Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Mr. Selfridge, Going the Distance, Faster), was motivated purely by appetence. Not that he doesn’t have a lot of other great qualities. He was awesome as the lovelorn artist in Mr. Selfridge, and he’s pretty hysterical in FOD’s Will and Kate: Before Happily Ever After. But that’s not why we’re here. How can I put this delicately?…He’s in the advanced stages of acute Hottness. If handsomeness were a disease, he would need to be hospitalized. Stat.  I could go on.

If you like what you see (and I have a feeling you do), you can see Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the TV miniseries World Without End, now available to stream on Netflix. It’s pretty great. And by “it” I of course mean his abs, which do make an appearance.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Chris O’Dowd

bridesmaids-rhodesBlame it on my recent viewing of Bridesmaids, where he plays the perfect male (that is not hyperbole).  Blame it on his meteoric rise to hotness on The IT Crowd.  Blame it on the recent feature on him in Entertainment Weekly, where he was utterly charming.    Blame it on the billboards all over LA for Family Tree with his adorable face.   Blame it on whatever you want, but it will not be denied that I am feeling Chris O’Dowd in a major way right now.  I mean, look at how adorable he is?!  And seriously, watch Bridesmaids and try to not fall in love with him.  It can’t be done unless your heart is made of cold, hard, unfeeling, black granite.

Or, better yet, you can just watch the video below and try to avoid his wonderful blend of humor and charm.   It can’t be done!  (Also, try to not hear Whitney and I squealing at Ewan McGregor, Chris O’Dowd and Graham Norton being in a room together).

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Adam Pally!

adampallyJack and Rose. Romeo and Juliet. Joey and Pacey. Whitney and Adam Pally. These are just some of history’s most endearing and tragic love stories, where couples are torn asunder by war, icebergs, teen drama, and insufficient ratings. I guess now that Happy Endings has been unceremoniously axed by ABC, we’ll never know if Max, Pally’s character on the show, and I could have made it work. Sure, he was gay and gynophobic and kind of a burnout and not super hygienic (and did I mention he was gay?) but I like to think those trivialities wouldn’t have stood in our way.

Well Max, this is good bye for now. I’ll treasure our moments together, and raise a glass of Sweet n’ Creamy in your honor.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Ben Wyatt

tumblr_lijcztUtdR1qhpa58o1_500_thumbIf you caught the full hour of Parks and Recreation last night, there can be no doubt in your mind as to why Ben Wyatt is our crush of the week (or decade).  I didn’t think it was possible that I could love one fictional man more, but he just continues to become even more my soul mate.

How are we to resist when that adorable man drops knowledge on Game of Thrones (“The Lannisters while very wealthy, do not posses the magical abilities…”) and Fringe (“I went back to season one of Fringe to check for plot holes. As I suspected…air tight.”), and makes macaroni and cheese pizza (I don’t know what it is, but I want to go to there.

Be still, our nerdy hearts.

You know, the guy who was a total jerk, but also really smart and super smokin’, so you secretly had the hots for him anyway? Fangirly Crush of the Week: Cary Grant

58_style-icon-cary-grantAs previously discussed on this blog, Whitney and I are cousins.  On a recent visit with our Grandpa, he complained that we talk about people he has never heard of and he can never tell “what the hell [we] are talking about”.  So, to appease our grandpa, I chose Cary Grant as our crush of the week.

He sure is a smart-looking beau.  In a perfect world, we would go steady, he would pin me, and I’d be his dame.  He really is the cat’s meow.  Golly gee, he really gets my motor revvin’. And best of all, he ain’t no chump and he ain’t no skirt chaser.  Cary Grant is the kind of guy who would treat you like a lady.  He really is the bee’s knees.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Jimmy Fallon

jimmy_fallonDing Dong the host is fired.  Yep, Jay Leno is finally stepping down (deja vu?) and Jimmy Fallon is reportedly stepping in to take The Tonight Show in 2014.

13-year old me could not be more excited and present-day me is pretty excited, as well.  When Jimmy Fallon was on SNL, my little heart beat so hard for him.  He used to do a sketch called “Wake Up Wakefield”, where Maya Rudolph was a middle schooler who crushed on his Randy Goldman so hard that she had T-Shirts with his silk screened face.  I wanted that shirt.  I settled for the picture above taped to my wall.

Every time I watch him now, I am reminded of how twitterpated he made me with his dorky charm and “aw-shucks” vibe.  He’s still got it and that’s why I love him.

In honor of this truly momentous occasion, I’m naming Enrico Colantoni, Mr. Keith Mars himself, as our Fangirly Crush of the Week. While there was an abundance of boffable bros on the show, I gotta say that it was Veronica’s lovable father that stole my heart. So here’s to you Mr. Mars. I don’t know how we’ve survived without you. Seriously.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Seth MacFarlane

seth-macfarlane-tuxThis one comes as a special request from Whitney’s mom and because we are such dutiful daughters and nieces, we could never neglect orders from our mothers.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I too jones for Seth MacFarlane. Also, he seemed quite the apropos pick for this week given his hosting duties at this Sunday’s Oscar Ceremony.

I think I can account for my first lusting after Mr. MacFarlane upon seeing him at Comic Con during the Family Guy panel.  I had seen pictures of him and thought him quite handsome, but there was something about seeing him in flesh and blood that really got to me.  I am also ashamed to admit that he seemed like a bit of a jackass and that kind of got me, too.  Yeah, I guess I’m one of those girls.  On the opposite side of the spectrum, the good girl in me likes that he sings like an angel (See below).

I, for one, am quite excited to see what he will bring to the Oscars this year.  He will certainly rock the boat a bit, but you can tell from his myriad of pop culture-related jokes on Family Guy, etc.  that he loves the movies and I think we will see more of that than people are expecting.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Chris Hardwick!

It started with Web Soup, and then his hilarious podcast The Nerdist, which was recently adapted into a TV show for BBC America and now has a place of honor in my DVR. Not sold? Well then, watch him charm the Scottish pants off Craig Ferguson in this clip.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Jacob Pitts

jacob-pitts_127112Look, no one can deny that Timothy Olyphant is a fine specimen of a man.  He wears that cowboy hat like nobody’s business and has swagger to boot.

While I still love me some Raylan Givens, my heart belongs to another on Justified, and that is none other than the grossly underused Deputy U.S. Marshal Tim Gutterson, played by Jacob Pitts.  Every time he says something on the show, it’s gold and watching him and Raylan work a sting is particularly titillating.  His snarky retorts and mad sniper skills are working in all sorts of ways for this girl.

An maybe, just maybe, if we write about our love for him enough, the showrunners will give him more to do.  I know I speak for both Whitney and myself when I say, Jacob Pitts, we salute you.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Allen Leech

I feel like I spend so much of my time and energy trying really, really hard not to be weird. This week was particularly challenging in that regard because last Sundays episode of Downton Abbey sent me down a crazy celebrity crush spiral. The foxy object of my affection? Allen Leech, who plays the chauffer-turned-son-in-law Tom Branson. Of course, after watching his weep-worthy performance on Sunday I was obligated to spend an hour on youtube looking up interviews with Mr. Leech. Turns out, not only is he cute AND Irish AND an awesome actor, he’s also hysterical. I present exhibit A. He doesn’t say much but check out his perfectly executed eye-roll around 00:53.

Adorable, right? In this next clip Allen does a pretty hilarious Julian Fellows impression.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Wesley Schultz (The Lumineers)

LumI thought I would break the mold a bit here and NOT pick someone that is on a TV show (but expect us to return to form soon).  Although, I have to admit that I was reminded of my love for this week’s crush by his appearance on a TV show.  I’m talking about The Lumineers’ appearance on Saturday Night Live, and by default, lead singer’s Wesley Schultz.

My love affair with The Lumineers started over a year again when I heard “Ho Hey” on an episode of Hart of Dixie (don’t judge).  The album wasn’t out yet and neither were any videos….

Said love affair took a turn when said videos and press photos came out.  Wesley Schultz.  Hum-a-nuh-hum-a-nuh.  He is my hipster dreamboat, y’all, and he has the same name as the Carey Elwes in The Princess Bride.  Also, it doesn’t hurt that The Lumineers album was my soundtrack of 2012 and his voice pierced my soul for the duration.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Graham Norton

5252100205_85549a96b12009 was a pretty big year for me: I aced the PSAT, was granted exclusive driving rights to my mom’s super sexy 1993 Honda Civic, and was finally, finally deemed old enough to watch The Graham Norton Show on BBC America. To this day I’m not sure where my love of TGNS originated. All I can say is that to me, it seemed like the perfect blend of hilarity, raunchy innuendo, and good-natured chat show fun (think The Late Show meets Pee Wee’s Playhouse). It also doesn’t hurt that Mr. Norton himself is, without exception, the coolest TV personality on either side of the Pond. Case and point, the guest on last weeks episode was THE Billie Piper. I have to assume that Graham saw our Billie Piper “Honey to the Bee” post and set up that interview as a special treat to me. He’s just that kind of guy, folks. If you’re still not on the Graham Norton train, feast your eyes on this clip of some of the shows best moments.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: David Walton

He’s the triple threat: cute, funny, and a doctor.  Am I right, ladies?  Add on to those that he is also a reformed commitment-phobe that came back to Jess because he just liked her THAT much?  There go my ovaries.  (TMI? Meh.)

He’s a babe.  If he were a president, he would be Baberham Lincoln. Scha-wing.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Ike Barinholtz!

Believe me, I’m as shocked as anybody by this week’s object of our Fangirly affection. For most of this season I’ve been crushing on another Mindy Project dreamboat, Danny Castellano (Chris Messina), who is probably the toughest OB/GYN on TV. But this week, it was the show’s adorably doofy nurse Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) who caught my eye. What can I say, I have a thing for clueless guys in scrubs. Am I totally alone here, or is this guy bringing it, in all the weirdest ways?
