Fangirly Crush(es) of the Week: The Property Brothers

Property-Brothers-SingleHappy Halloween! To celebrate, you are getting two for the price of one today.  I have been stuck in a Netflix vortex since they recently added bundles of HGTV and Food Network shows.  My favorite?  Of course it’s those snarky twins, The Property Brothers!  A guy who can give me my dream house on a budget all while cracking wise?  What’s not to love?

Do you like Drew’s more upscale, businessman vibe?  Or maybe Jonathan’s more casual, handyman persona is more your style?  Ideally, I like the man can get his hands dirty, but with Drew’s hair.  Can I get that?

Good news is that they made a video to help you decide (if you are a fan of the show at all, you should definitely watch).

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Grant Gustin

Audi And Derek Lam Kick Off Emmy Week 2012You know what I love about TV? Anything is possible. I mean, network television is the only place where a Disney Prince like Grant Gustin (star of the CW’s new hit The Flash) could convincingly pass as a physics nerd who just can’t seem to get some strange. Do TV executives really think that girls hate math and science so much that we would overlook a guy this seismically sexy because he’s a college educated professional who likes to talk about particle physics? I’m having a really hard time not feeling insulted.

The truth is CW, nobody’s buying it. I honestly believe that this man could play a dumpster-diving cannibal with a bad case of halitosis and a third arm growing out of his neck, and my reaction would still be…

So, Grant Gustin, we here at Fangirly salute you. You are great, your new show is great, and we look forward to watching you inexplicably not get laid for many years to come.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Stephen Amell

Stephen-AmellStephen Amell is pretty crushworthy, especially if you are a fan of Arrow.  His Oliver Queen is the broody, tough guy who really has a heart of gold and is currently wooing the nerdy IT girl.  Le swoon.

More than that, Amell is good to his people.  When I sat in the show’s panel at Comic Con, Amell talked a lot about his presence on social media and how he feels that everyone should be interacting more with their fans because it is so easy to do these days.  He runs all of his own sites but is especially active on Facebook.  He now has about 2.6 million likes and gives a lot back to the fans.  Every Friday is Fanart Friday, every Monday is Meme Monday, with Amell featuring his favorites on those respective days.  He does fan Q & A’s, on set updates, and fan shout outs and I just think it is pretty awesome.

So here’s to you, Stephen Amell.  You’re a pretty cool cat and you’re pretty hot.

I’m just going to leave this here.

If you like that, there is plenty more where that came from on Arrow.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Iain De Caestecker

fitzWith the onslaught of Fall TV comes the return of old crushes and introduction of new faves.  The competition this week was pretty stiff, but considering I just binged Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Iain De Caestecker AKA Fitz of the show’s FitzSimmons took the edge.

Even further solidifying his spot in my heart this week (SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW, if you care) is the gut-wrenching, take-my-heart-and-stomp-on-it turn that his character has taken this season.  In last season’s finale, he admitted his true feelings to Simmons and made the grandest of bold gestures and sacrificed his life to give her a chance of saving her own.  We left the season with the status of his health as unknown.  When the show came back this season, Fitz was still there working in the lab with Simmons but it was apparent that he had suffered some serious brain damage as he struggled to find words and to form ideas.  The final blow was when we found out Simmons had left the team months ago and Fitz has only been imagining her as a way to cope.  THE FEELS, right?!

(END OF SPOILERS) On top of all that, Fitz is just an adorable, nerdy, puppy dog of a man in his cardigans and plaid shirts.  What’s not to love? fitz

We have crushed on guys far less deserving.  Some may say that Ward is the more crushable option on the show, but they obviously wouldn’t know me very well.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Jessica Lange

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????I present to you a pop culture syllogism: if you like good TV, then you like American Horror Story; if you like American Horror Story, then you LOVE Jessica Lange. Therefore, if you like good TV, you love Jessica Lange.

It was recently announced that Lange will be making the fourth season of AHS her last. If you are wondering how the show can survive without her, you aren’t alone. For now, we’re going to enjoy the guts out of Freakshow and revel in Constance-Sister-Jude-Fiona’s last season. Thanks for proving that there are still great roles for gracefully aging women in TV. And the four years worth of reoccurring nightmares. Can’t forget about those.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Santiago Cabrera

AramisI used to receive texts from my mom that were along the lines of “Have you watched The Musketeers yet?  The boys are so cute!  You would love it!”  What can I say?  She gets me.

She was right, too.  Cute guys abound, but after hours of research, I have determined that Aramis played by Santiago Cabrera is my favorite. His mix of cocky lothario and honorable gentleman sets me swooning.  Judging from how the first season ended, the sexy smolders should continue, if not intensify.  Yes, please.

The show is pretty good, too.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Benjamin Booker

This is a conversation I have with my musically inclined brother on almost a biweekly basis:

Him: Whitney, you should listen to blah blah blah blah.

Me: Oh, cool. How much hipster cred is it worth?

Indignant Him: That’s not what it’s even about! These guys are really reminiscent of, like, blah blah blah blah (I love him ever elle-bejamin-booker-2-lgnso, but at this point in the chat he kinda loses me. Bless his little indie heart).

Eric, I know you wanted me to grow up to be that cool chick drummer from the White Stripes, and instead you got the sixth spice girl (Sister Spice! I slay myself sometimes). In Benjamin Booker, though, I think we might finally find some common ground. You can appreciate his Jack White Certified musical chops, and I will appreciate the rest of him.  For those of you who don’t share mitochondrial DNA with us, here is a Booker tune so you can join the conversation too.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Sam Heughan (but really Jamie Fraser)

You may see our “Crush of the Week” feature and wonder how there are enough crushes in the world to have a new one every week, but TV is a ever-running fountain of men to crush on.  Recently, this fountain gave me the greatest gift of all, a physical embodiment of Jamie Fraser from the Outlander book series coming in the swoony form of one Sam Heughan.

Despite loving it, I have been hesitant to recommend Outlander because it has sexytimes and having read the book, I know there are more to come.  However, I cannot recommend crushing on Sam Heughan enough. I mean…

tumblr_nbfyrhXN951ti54jto1_500

Yes, sir.  You are.

I have yet to see Sam Heughan in anything other than Outlander, so I have to question how much of my crush is dependent on him playing the manly, adorable, gentlemanly Highlander, Jamie Fraser.   He ain’t no slouch as himself either, though.

Oh, stop it, you.

But you guys, I really cannot stress enough…

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Evan Peters

Seriously, where did this guy come from? Has he always been a thing? Maybe it’s the distinctly Clockwork Orange-y vibe he throws off, or maybe I’m losing my uncanny ability to scope out even the most obscure of Hotties. Either way…

giphy

I never had a mind to crush on Mr. Peters till I got around to watching American Horror Story: Asylum. First, I would like to say, YIKES. AHS is rough stuff, even for a gal with a deep appreciation for even the most depraved examples of the horror genre. Second, I would like to personally apologize to Evan Peters for not getting it before now. You evan-peters-discusses-quciksilver-in-x-men-days-of-future-pastare smoking; You should know that about yourself. Also, your turn as Quicksilver in one of this summers watchable movies, X-Men: Days of Future Past, was bananas. You stone cold scene-stealer, you.

In summation, if you haven’t yet started crushing on Evan Peters yet, here is the chance to get the jump on all your friends. He is going to be huge, and you don’t want to be the last one to crash the Evan Peters Party. If you’re still not convinced, you can watch him in American Horror Story: Freakshow this fall. I guarantee you will be terrified and twitterpated in equal measure. Try not to think about it too much.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Tom Hiddleston

tumblr_mtryl1lnEg1rz0ey2o1_500In doing this “Crush of the Week” feature, I often come up with an idea and think, “There is no way we haven’t already done them” or “I love them way too much to have never chosen them”.  Then I search them on the site and to my utter shock an horror, come up with nothing.

This has never been more shocking than when I searched Tom Hiddleston and came up with nothing in the way of crushing.

I have been crushing on Tom for a while and all his Tumblr love has really pushed me over the edge.  The fangirls love them some Tom Hiddleston.  And why shouldn’t they?  He is an adorably charming sexpot with a voice like butter, plus he can dance.

Earlier this week, his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge made women understand the appeal of a good wet T-Shirt contest.

Thank you, England.  Thank you, God.  Whoever is responsible for this.

Ellen

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Chris Pratt

This is a repeat pick, but after the week… or month that I have had crushing on Chris Pratt, this needed to happen.  If you only knew all the Chris Pratt related posts that I have liked on Tumblr lately, I would be very embarrassed but also proud of my collection.  Also, seeing Guardians of the Galaxy twice in the course of four days  is bound to make a girl a bit obsessive.

I would like to point out that I have been crushing on Chris since before he got in Guardians shape, but of course, Guardians shape has turned this up to 11.  I have loved seeing him in the spotlight, especially since he is this lovable goof that I fell in love with on Parks and Rec.

And now here is an image dump because I couldn’t pick.

And this:

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Colin O’ Donoghue

Captain HookSorry that I have been somewhat absent this week, it’s just that I have been really busy bingeing on Once Upon a Time and, as any red-blooded female should, this led to becoming obsessed with Captain Hook, played by Colin O’Donoghue.  I am not ready to elaborate on the extent of my obsessive behavior, but suffice it to say my internet history would prove that he has been well and thoroughly googled.

That came out so much dirtier than intended.

I had all but given up on OUAT back in season 2, but all the hullabaloo over this most recent season finale and some recent free time led to me playing catch up.  Captain Hook’s addition pretty much re-made the show for me and as I have said on this blog before, I love me a good ship.  (Ahoy, Captain Swan shippers!)

All that swarthy, bad boy swagger hiding a troubled heart of gold is the perfect formula to make me swoon.  And with an accent to boot!  Looks like it’s the pirate’s life for me.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Andrew Garfield

spidermanHow did I pick this one you ask?  Oh, just that he is in a little movie that is coming out this weekend that happens to mark the beginning of the summer movie season which is only my favorite time of year! Oh, and he is adorable.

Yes, this fangirl is (hesitantly) excited to see Spider-Man this weekend and Andrew Garfield plays a big part in that.  He’s just so gosh-darned cute and him and Emma Stone are just so gosh-darned cute together.  I feel like if someone is British their “charm factor” goes up exponentially.  I mean, just watch the video below and try to not fall into deep smit.  I dare you.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: John Mulaney

John MulaneyWhitney’s well-deserving choice of Colin Jost for crush made me realize that I have yet to elect my favorite crushiest SNL writer, John Mulaney.  If you have yet to do so, you need to go to Netflix and watch his stand up special New In Town.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry… from laughing, but more importantly, you’ll understand why he is my choice for crush of the week.  His smart, pop culture-infused humor and tall child, high-waisted good looks are a definite win in this girl’s book. And if you love Law & Order based humor, Mulaney is your guy.

Watch his stand up special now because his new show Mulaney got a six episode order from Fox and this way you will be able to say that you knew him before he got big.

Ellen

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Colin Jost

colin-jost-618x400So much has happened the last few months- unrest in Eastern Europe, Kate Middleton’s first ever fashion misstep, ect.- that we here at Fangirly have been neglecting our duties.  In the flurry of movie premiers, award show stumbles , and diplomatic crises, we forgot to take a moment to geek out over SNL’s new head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost. He’s got the doofy good looks of a passable TV nerd and the biting wit that makes us hope this could be the start of a whole new SNL. Colin Jost, we salute you.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Danny Castellano (AKA Chris Messina)

tumblr_n3ho4tGzYy1qagxdco1_500If you watched the return of The Mindy Project this week, your first thought at the end of the episode was probably “It is now so obvious who Ellen is going to pick for the crush of the week.”  Because duh.

As if his Christmas dance and airplane kiss weren’t enough, “Little D” had to go and read Bridget Jones’ Diary in a British accent.  How am I supposed to resist that?  It’s just not going to happen. Everything about who I am makes it physically impossible.

Over the course of the past few days, I have watched the new episodes…we’ll just say too many times, so really this choice was inevitable.  But it was also inevitable because Danny Castellano is a curmudgeonly dreamboat.  Just the way we like them (see also: Nick Miller).

Plus, his eyelashes are so long.  Like a pony.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Chris Evans

IMG_2693You know how some actors can be totally ubiquitous and yet somehow still manage to fly under your radar? In honor of the upcoming release of Marvel’s The Winter Soldier, I thought I’d crush this week on just such an actor. It’s not that I ever actively disliked Chris Evans (although Not Another Teen Movie certainly didn’t help), I just never got around to crushing on him. Which, thinking back, is kind of outrageous. He looks like some weird genetic amalgamation of Sam Rockwell, Gary Cooper, and Jensen Ackles. It shouldn’t work, but it totally does.

I think the real reason I never hopped on the Evans Express was because most of the movies I’ve seen him in are, you know, categorically not great (Fantastic Four, Push, What’s Your Number?, the list goes on). And while I liked him in Captain America: The First Avenger, it wasn’t enough to make me go gonzo. Then I saw Puncture. (Sidebar: this movie should really be mandatory viewing for anyone going into healthcare.) Not that it was a perfect flick; I thought the David and Goliath element was a bit over-dramatized and www.pinterest.comoverall it felt like total Oscar-fodder. But that movie pretty much marked the first time I realized that Chris Evan could actually act, in addition to being aggressively good-looking. Since then I’ve been able to catch some of his good stuff, namely Sunshine and The Iceman, and have been heading down a crazy crush spiral ever since. As if that weren’t enough, he is actually pretty funny. So Captain, we here at Fangirly salute you. Better late than never, right?

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Iggy Azalea

iggy-azalea-650I am making Fangirly history here and choosing our first ever girl crush of the week!  But really after the week I have had, it was no contest.  I am just a wee bit obsessed with Iggy Azazlea.  And when I say “wee bit”, what I mean is that I have been listening to her on repeat, I now know her life story after internet stalking her, and I have been caught up in a YouTube vortex of Iggy Azalea videos.

The main reason that she is so crushworthy is that she is just TOO cool.  I wish I could have a modicum of her swag, but alas, I am too white.  And yes, I realize that she is white.  Also, I feel comfortable enough in my sexuality to come out and admit that the girl is hot.

Seeing as how we are both straight, it probably wouldn’t work out. At the very least we could watch and enjoy Clueless together, though.
