Fangirly Crush of the Week: Jake Johnson

I don’t know what has changed, but in the first season of of New Girl, I could not have cared less about Jake Johnson or his alter ego, Nick Miller.  Don’t get me wrong, I wanted Nick and Jess to fall in love, but I myself could have taken him or left him.

Then this season comes along and everything has changed.  I don’t know if it is a change in my libido or something that the show has done to change his character, but I can’t get enough of him! Anything that comes out of his mouth lately has me rolling.  His delivery is priceless. Take for example his line reading of the word “spectacular” while watching a documentary on turtles.  Slayed me.

Am I alone?  Has something changed?

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Damon Wayans Jr!

There was no shortage of crushable dudes this week in TV, but one bro stood out among the rest, and unless you have something against headlines, you already know that man was Mr. Damon Wayans Jr! Although we’ve always had our eye on the Happy Endings star, he really brought the heat this week in theseason 3 premiere. Examples, you ask? Well, we now know that Brad, Wayans character on the show, has a ventriloquist dummy named Sinbrad. (FYI, this is the only time you will ever catch us admitting that ventriloquism can be sexy. We generally feel that it has no place in society, outside of prime time sitcoms and Goosebumps books). To honor Damon Wayans Jr., here is a clip of some of Brad’s best moments.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Sam Palladio

As predicted, I am loving Nashville.  So of course, I had to decide who my main squeeze of the show is.  I had no other choice but to choose Gunner (Sam Palladio).  What can I say?  I love me the lovesick puppy and a good high falsetto.

It doesn’t hurt that his duet with Clare Bowen is currently on repeat during my commute.  Also, my Nashville comrade and I have decided that he is a young Lee Pace, which is A-OK with me.

Check out the duet if you missed it!

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Skylar Astin!

I have seen Pitch Perfect twice now. I wish I could say it’s because of the awesome musical numbers (of which there are several), or the incredible comedic styling’s of Rebel Wilson, but that would be a lie. I can’t stop watching this movie for one very talented, hilarious, sexy reason: Skylar Astin. Astin plays the romantic lead opposite Anna Kendrick, and I don’t know if it’s his smirk, his charm, his dancing, or some irresistible blend of the three that has us here at Fangirly so worked up. For the gentlemen out there, I have provided the following clip. Take notes, because it’s this kind of charisma that makes a lady sit up and take notice.

Now I know what you’re thinking. There is no way this guy could possibly get any sexier, right? WRONG. Allow me to prove my point with a clip.

Oh, you want more? You can see Skylar Astin in Pitch Perfect, in theaters now!

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Jensen Ackles

There wasn’t really a choice here.  Supernatural came back this week and with it, the irresistible charms of Jensen Ackles, AKA The Superiour Winchester.  Also, I felt like I HAD to pick him this week, because things are not looking well for his likability factor this season.  What did he get up to in Purgatory?  What did he do to Cas? Who is this guy he is all chummy with?  Why won’t he tell his brother to cut his hair?! Ghahgljkdo!

Breathe.

Sorry, I had to go to my happy place.  A land where I don’t doubt Dean and our trust issues are non-existent.  I just have to hope that Purgatory didn’t get the best of him (although, I will admit that he was looking pretty good in those flashbacks.  Gettin’ all done and dirty, covered in his own sweat, dirt, and… vampire blood).

Anyway, Jensen Ackles gives Dean the perfect mix of funny, charming, sentimental, and rugged.  Oh, so rugged.

Ahem, enjoy the picture that I took when I was about ten feet from him at Comic Con  and the awesome video of him rocking out to the leg guitar!

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Sebastian Stan!

In honor of the upcoming season premiere of ABC’s Once Upon a Time I’m naming Sebastian Stan as our Crush of the Week. Stan’s role as the Mad Hatter pretty much embodies all the qualities I look for in a man. Borderline psychotic: check. Wears dope hats: check. Holds a grudge like a vengeful Japanese ghost: double check. While the Hatter’s character was, at best, pretty peripheral last season  I’m hopeful that we’ll get to see more of him in season two. Here’s some clips to tide you over till then. If you like what you see (and believe me, you will) check out the season premiere of Once Upon a Time, Sunday Sept. 30, 8 p.m. on ABC!

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Chris Pratt

In case you haven’t noticed, we do not beat around the bush when it comes to our love for Adam Scott.  We love him.  But for our crush this week, I decided to spread the love a little.

In preparation for the new season and because I just got Season 4 on DVD, I have been watching a good amount of Parks and Rec and I have to say that Chris Pratt has been floating my boat.  Admittedly, is it difficult to float said boat?  No.  Here’s the criteria:  make me laugh and … nope, that’s pretty much it.

And Chris Pratt delivers. This man is not afraid to throw himself around or look like a complete fool for the sake of comedy.  Andy may be a bit doofy, but he is lovable and he loves the people around him.  What more can a girl ask for?

Chris Pratt (and Andy) we salute you!  Schaaaa-wing!

(I got caught in a YouTube web.  You’re lucky there are only three)

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Andrew Lee Potts!

If there’s one thing we love here at Fangirly it’s a sexy TV nerd, and nobody does nerd better than Andrew Lee Potts on the British sci-fi drama Primeval. With his quirky hipster style, incredible comedic timing, and face like a sexy, anthropomorphized cartoon rabbit, Potts is the natural choice for our Fangirly Crush of the Week.  Don’t believe me? Let’s go to the tape.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Arthur Darvill

In keeping with our quasi-Doctor Who themed week here at Fangirly and because I am on a DW high, I decided to choose from our favorite time-traveling British import for the crush of the week.  It, of course, came down to Rory and the Doctor (who else was I supposed to choose? An ood?), but after the season 7 premiere, I had to choose Rory.  Did you see the boots and skinny jeans?!  I had no choice.

In all seriousness, I love Rory and I was utterly charmed by Arthur at the DW panel at Comic Con.  While he is not what some might call “conventionally handsome”, you’ll soon realize that we could care less about that around here.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Patrick J. Adams!

He’s hilarious, he’s adorable, and his role as Mike Ross on USA’s legal drama Suits made this girl’s summer hiatus a little more bearable. And speaking as someone still reeling from the Suits season finale, all I can say is that January cannot come soon enough. Patrick J. Adams, we salute you.

Oh, you’re still not convinced? Try this clip on for size.

Welcome to Fangirly!

The day has finally come, the moment that only we have been waiting for, the launch of our new website, fangirly.com! We really have been excited to start and judging from some of the stuff that we have planned the fun is just beginning.

Like our tagline suggests, we consider ourselves to be fairly intelligent, discerning human beings, but you stick us in front of TV screen, movie screen, iPod/Pad screen, really any screen, and something strange happens. We lose all sense of how rational people behave. We squeal, laugh hysterically, sob, and do this weird thing that only select members of our family do, rub our hands together out of excitement.

We wanted to give you a little taste of the fun that is to come, so here are some of the features we will be doing here at Fangirly:

Sweet Streams: Do you ever sit down in front of your Netflix account and wonder what you should watch next? “Sweet Streams” will be our recommendations for what you should be streaming to your myriad of devices.

Grade A, Choice Picks: We’re going to give you our top picks for a variety of categories. Curious as to our top food fight scenes?  Top movies based on SNL skits? Top TV bromances? We are going to rank whatever our little hearts desire, because it gives us a false sense of superiority.  Join us, won’t you?

Fangirly Exposed!: Look we all have things that we are embarrassed to like, guilty pleasures, if you will. We are going to do the smart thing and announce ours on the internet!

Fanmanly: While we here at Fangirly enjoy our fair share of romance and polka dots and… other girly stuff, we still like to get down and dirty with the boys. (Insert innuendo of choice here). “Fanmanly” is our look at shows, movies, etc. that leave us feeling just a little more hardcore.

Anglohphiles Anonymous: Whether it be the accents, the dry wit, or the general regal air, we love the Brits and their entertainment (at least everything that makes it across the pond).  Check out picks for the finest that the UK has to offer.

Agree to Disagree: Let it be said that we agree on a lot, but there are also some things on which we will never see eye to eye.  Enjoy as Ellen wins every argument (No, Ellen didn’t write this).

In with the Old: Remember the day when movies and TV shows weren’t all spinoffs, sequels, remakes, and re-imaginings? Us, too! With this feature we hope to remind the future generations that we  were once able to come up with novel concepts.  Because we believe the children are our future.

Marry, Boff, Kill:  We once spent an entire camping trip playing this game, arguing over our choices, and disowning each other for killing certain people.  Now we are bringing the game to you guys so you can relish in watching us argue over (never going to happen) hypothetical situations.

Fangirly Crush of the Week: Pretty self-explanatory, but our spotlight on who is rocking our world.  At least for that week.

We have a lot planned and we are really excited to start.  Hopefully you will find the time to stop by and see what we are up to!  – by Ellen and Whitney
