Web Bytes: Clip from New Arrested Development

o-ARRESTED-DEVELOPMENT-PREMIERE-DATE-570I think I just blue myself.  You can look forward to a forthcoming ode to Arrested Development on this blog, but I am trying to rein in my excitement and not write a million posts (instead I just post a million Facebook statuses about it).  Nothing has ever been more difficult.

Web Bytes: The Ricky Gervais Show

Ricky+Gervais+Steven+Merchant+and+Karl+Pilkington+KarlPilkingtonStephenM0011Allow me give you, dear reader, a piece of life advice: If you are ever feeling down, plug in the headphones and give The Ricky Gervais Show a listen.  Now, I a know that this podcast originally aired back in 2005 or so and that this is hardly current or cutting edge advice, but  no matter.  I have now listened to all of the episodes several times and it still never fails to slay me with laughter every time.

The basic format is Ricky Gervais and his collaborator Stephen Merchant sitting in a room and picking the brain of their odd little idiot savant, Karl Pilkington.  He has the strangest life perspective and Merchant and Gervais spend the entire show making fun of him.  It sounds mean, and sometimes it is, but I still laugh.  The podcast has now expanded into TV Shows (the animated Ricky Gervais Show and Idiot Abroad), but I still like to go back to roots and give the old podcasts a listen.

This week, for example, has been completely wretched at work.  Yesterday one of the episodes came on during my a shuffle on my iPhone.  Within a few minutes, I was stifling laughter, albeit not very well because my co-worker finally had to ask what I found so funny.

If this flew under your radar, I highly suggest you get your hands on some episodes and give it a listen when you are having a bad day.  In the meantime, check out a clip of the animated show below.

series-7-part-2-filming-bike-london-busAll things considered, I feel that I’ve been very cool about the impending return of Doctor Who. No frenzied posts featuring endless series 7 teaser trailers. No frantic texts to Ellen about how this may or may not be Matt Smith’s last year as the Doctor. So yeah, I’d say I’ve been pretty good. Then I saw the latest trailer and went a bit… nuts. Here’s a just a few of the clips I’ve been geeking-out about this morning.

Ok, if THAT didn’t get you in the Doctor Who spirit you’re either dead inside, or you were recently converted into a Cyberman. Either way, my condolences.

Web Bytes: Much Ado About Nothing Trailer

much_ado_about_nothing_still_a_lCould my day get any better?  I stumbled upon this trailer today and am now only upset that it took me a full week to do so.

Much Ado About Nothing has always been my favorite Shakespeare play, so when you throw in Joss Whedon, one of my favorite people out there, I’m sold.

The trailer has done nothing to put a damper on said excitement.  In fact, it increasing with alarming frenzy after each viewing of the trailer.  Maybe I should just stop watching it?

Web Bytes: Season 2 of Burning Love

video.burninglove.com@8dc4cdc0-fbd9-39f6-aad5-aad6dba7a8a9_FULLIf you watch The Bachelor franchise, as I do, you are well aware that it is ripe for some ribbing.  Enter Burning Love, a web series from Ken Marino and the rest of my favorite comedy personalities.  The first season focused on a fireman who asked they ladies if they would “accept his hose”.  It hit the mark so perfectly that it was scary.

This season looks like it will be no different.  You have the musician who is just there to up his profile, the single dad who constantly bring up his son, the rich jack weed, the hot guy who “isn’t there for the right reasons”, and the guy who is still trying to get over a medical trauma (in this case, being born three months premature).  Yeah, it’s pretty amazing.

Go see for yourself.

Web Bytes: The Lonely Island “Yolo”

Before “D**k in a Box”, before “Lazy Sunday”, and even before Andy Samberg showed up on SNL, my friend and I were college freshman who were obsessed with three guys who made random web videos about The ‘Bu, storks, sandwiches, and a “frazzy-haired Jew girl”.

When it comes to the guys known as the Lonely Island, I really CAN say that I knew them when they were nobodies and I have always loved that my boys are now getting to make their videos with a somewhat higher production value.

In case you haven’t already seen it, I give you “Yolo”, the song that knows that we really do only live once and we should be careful with that precious gift of life.

Considering that my previously mentioned college roommate and I would regularly argue over which of the Lonely Island boys was the cutest, we would have gone nuts for this video, because all of them are looking pretty fly in their acid-washed denim jackets.

Watch the video and see if your heart is also sent aflutter.

Fangirly Exposed: Billie Piper (Again!)

Billie-Piper-Girlfriend-137625What makes an artist? Some say it’s creativity, or passion, or talent. Personally, and I apologize if this sounds pretentious, I feel that a true artist dances around in midriff tops and leather pants to catchy 90’s chart toppers. Call me fastidious, but that’s just my opinion. And few people fit that definition better than Billie Piper, the brilliant teen-pop-idol-turned-serious-actress. I could present you with well-planned arguments to support my case, but if Billie’s music has taught me anything, it’s that style is WAY more important than substance. So without further ado, I present you with three of my favorite Billie Piper music videos.

Web Bytes: Shoopin’ with the Boys of Parks and Rec

Web Bytes: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

LBD smallIf we haven’t already addressed it, you will soon learn that we here at Fangirly  love us some BBC period dramas. Bring on the high collars and sideburns. I myself wrote enough papers on Jane Austen in college to fill a sizable tome.  And it is safe to say that I have seen the five-hour miniseries of Pride and Prejudice at LEAST 20 times.  All components that lead to making The Lizzie Bennet Diaries the perfect candidate for our latest obsession.

LBD (as the cool kids abbrev it) is the modern-day vlog of, you guessed it, Lizzie Bennet.  Her sisters Lydia and Jane and friend Charlotte are all frequent guests and for a while Darcy was only heard of or seen through Lizzie’s less than flattering imitations. FINALLY, in episode 60 (yeah, 60!) he showed up to present his undesired proclamations.

This is an entertaining series and unique medium for one of my favorite stories.  Its been great fun to get a little taste every Monday and Thursday.  If I had to complain about anything it would be that it is taking them forever to get to my favorite part, but that is my complaint with the book and miniseries, as well. Luckily, it looks like my patience will be tried no longer as the tease for today’s episode was that Lizzie is touring a company by the name of Pemberley Digital.
